French label converter LP2i Étiquettes has implemented a digital hybrid printing solution that streamlines the production of extended content labels by enabling printing directly onto the adhesive layer.

The system combines Domino Printing Sciences’ N730i Integration Module and K600i monochrome inkjet printer with web handling and finishing technology from Grafotronic, along with inspection from Lake Image Systems.

Designed to address growing regulatory demands for more on-pack information, the solution simplifies the production of multi-layer and peel-and-reveal labels by reducing the number of unwinding and rewinding steps typically required.

At the core of the process is the ability to print directly onto the adhesive, allowing converters to produce each layer of an extended content label with greater efficiency and control.

“We have saved an enormous amount of time producing extended content labels,” says Axel Néri, operator at LP2i Étiquettes. “I can spot print onto the adhesive, which is very easy, all while printing with the N730i.”

The Domino N730i delivers 1200 dpi print resolution at standard speeds of 70 m/min, with a high-speed productivity mode enabling operation at up to 90 m/min without compromising quality. High-opacity white ink provides a consistent background for printing fine detail, including microtext as small as 2 pt.

The K600i monochrome inkjet system adds variable data, text, and 2D codes across multiple layers, supporting highly customized label formats. An integrated inspection system ensures print quality and code verification, while Grafotronic’s finishing technology manages web handling and layer assembly.

According to LP2i, the integrated workflow has improved productivity and consistency while reducing material waste.

“Our clients demand the highest quality,” says Vivien Sol, quality manager at LP2i. “The Domino press provides us with greater control over repeatability and print quality.”

Founder Patrice Néri added that the system has also delivered measurable operational benefits. “The new process increases our productivity, capacity, and profitability, because we save on materials and time,” he said.

Domino said the installation highlights how closer collaboration between press, finishing, and inspection suppliers can help converters meet evolving requirements for extended content labeling.

“We are excited to support LP2i Étiquettes in meeting the growing demand for extended content labels,” remarks Sébastien Van Der Luys, business development manager EMEA at Domino. “This project demonstrates how technical integration and collaboration can deliver greater efficiency and consistency.”

By combining digital printing, adhesive-side imaging, and automated finishing, the solution expands the capabilities of extended content label production — offering converters a more streamlined path to producing complex, information-rich formats.bout the multi-layer label printing solution, watch the LP2i Étiquettes case study video.
